Fun golf activities on offer at Ricoh Women’s British Open

There is an amazing array of fun golfing activities to cater for every age and taste at the Golf Zone in the spectator village at the Ricoh Women’s British Open this week.

There are three bays where PGA professionals are giving free 15 minute lessons from 10am to 6pm every day. There is also a range of chipping and putting activities, as well as a six-hole putting course, which are free for all to try.

Samantha Head, Sarah Bennett, Jo Oliver and Denise Hastings are among the former Ladies European Tour players who have gone on to second careers as PGA professionals are among the 14 professionals giving expert tuition and 17 volunteers helping to supervise the area. All four former LET players have previously competed in the Ricoh Women’s British Open and are now getting more people into golf.

LET Director of Development and Membership Mike Round said: “We have worked with IMG to bring the Golf Zone to life, because it’s important for the LET to give back to the communities that we visit through our tournaments. It’s also a priority to introduce more people to the sport and inspire them to play golf. I would also like to thank England Golf and the Golf County Partnerships for giving their existing female junior golfers the opportunity to come here to Woburn to experience the thrill of top level international competition.”

The junior golfers who were invited to attend on Wednesday received a behind-the-scenes tour and met several stars of the game, including European Solheim Cup players Charley Hull and Azahara Muñoz. More girls have been invited to attend on the tournament days, making a total of more than 50 girls who will have had an inspiring experience at the Ricoh Women’s British Open.
