A few weeks ago, Annabel Fuller wouldn’t have believed you if you told her she would have two top-10 finishes from her first two Ladies European Tour (LET) events of the season.
The English star, who is in her second year on Tour, finished in a share of sixth place at the season-opening Lalla Meryem Cup in Morocco.
That result ensured Fuller earned one of the two top 10 places on offer for the PIF Saudi Ladies International, which had a total prize purse of $5 million USD.
Fuller produced rounds of 66-68-71 around Riyadh Golf Club to finish in solo third place – her best-ever finish on the LET.
“It feels unreal, I don’t know how to react right now,” said Fuller. “It’s pretty special. The final group was fun, my front nine was a bit up and down and the weather was quite hard. I just tried to battle through that, but it was really cool to learn from Jeeno [Thitikul] and watch her play, so that was special too.”
The field had to battle with the weather conditions on Saturday which saw unusual conditions for Saudi Arabia with wind and rain making the day a little trickier.
Fuller made three bogeys on her front nine but began to bounce back with birdies on holes 10 and 12.
The 22-year-old made another dropped shot on 13 but finished in style rolling in birdies on 15, 17 and 18 to seal her best-ever result.
Fuller explained: “With golf, you never know what’s going to happen until the last putt drops, so going forward and in any situation knowing to stay with it until the very end, that’s what I learned today.
“I really wanted to get into this event, that was my big goal in Morocco was to make it into this event. This week I wanted to make the cut and feel like I was meant to be here, and it’s a little bit better than that, so that’s been quite nice.”
After securing third place, Fuller now also sits third in the LET Order of Merit with 340 points to her name.
The English star has a two-week break before the next LET events and has planned to spend some time with her sister Sammy.
She added: “I’m going to go and have a couple of nice days with my sister, do something special with her and then off to Australia.”
Next up for the LET is a trip to Australia with the first of three events – the Australian WPGA Championship – taking place from March 6-9 at Sanctuary Cove Golf and Country Club.
