FOUR TALKING POINTS AHEAD OF THE JOBURG LADIES OPEN

Moa Folke

The Ladies European Tour (LET) continues this week with the first of two tournaments in South Africa and a trip to Johannesburg.

It will be the second edition of the Joburg Ladies Open, which is taking place at Modderfontein Golf Club, and will see 132 players from 28 nations teeing it up.

Before the tournament gets underway, here are a few points to look out for…

Home favourites ready to go

No fewer than 19 South African players will tee it up this week in the 72-hole stroke play competition in Johannesburg.

Lee-Anne Pace, who won the LET Order of Merit in 2010, leads the home line along with Nicole Garcia, Stacy Lee Bregman and Casandra Alexander.

Sunshine Ladies Tour winners in town

This week is a co-sanctioned tournament between the LET and the Sunshine Ladies Tour and it is the fifth tournament on the 2023 Sunshine Ladies Tour schedule.

The winners from the first four tournaments will be hoping to repeat their feat once again as Casandra Alexander (two-time winner), Moa Folke and Hayley Davis all tee it up.

Hewson hoping to better 2022 performance

England’s Alice Hewson, who sits fourth in the 2023 Race to Costa del Sol, will be hoping to go a few spots better than she did in 2022.

At last year’s tournament, the LET winner finished in a tie for third place and has had a great start to the season with a runner-up finish in Kenya alongside two top-20 results.

Birdies 4 Dignity

Throughout the tournament week, a Birdies 4 Dignity campaign is being run where for every birdie a professional makes then a dignity pack will be donated to a school in the Alexandra township.

Items being donated for dignity packs include sanitary towels, toothpaste, toothbrush, bath soap, deodorant, lotion and face towel.
