Schaeffer however is playing in only her eighth start on Tour as a professional with a previous best finish of joint 28th in the recent KLM Ladies Open. She will celebrate her 21st birthday on Sunday, but insisted: “It is not an exceptional day where I want to win more just because it’s my birthday. It’s just another year. To win is not an obligation; I don’t want to put that extra pressure on myself. Yesterday was exceptional; today is the same. I’m not under any illusions. I still want to keep my feet on the ground.
“I’m happy because I didn’t play great but I scored well today. I had four good birdies and only one bogey. Yesterday I had only 25 putts and today I had 30 putts. The difference is I hit 13 greens instead of 10 yesterday.”
Schaeffer is embracing life as a touring professional. She said her best experience on Tour so far was watching a bull fight in Castellon, Spain, with several other players.
“I cried it was so horrible but I think it was a good cultural experience. For the bull fighters, that is their dream. For me, golf is my dream.” The French rookie claimed to be a girls’ girl who likes shopping, go carting and going to the seaside.
Giquel, playing in her fourth year on Tour, carded six birdies and one bogey in her second round and like the two rookies she was aiming for a maiden Tour victory. Her career best finish was second in the BMW Ladies Italian Open.

“I’m in a good position for tomorrow so I’ll just carry on doing what I’m doing. I didn’t get a practice round either so I’m really surprised that I’m doing so well.
“Yesterday was the first time I had played the course so I was really happy with three under yesterday and four-under today. To go round this course and not drop a shot, I was pretty impressed with myself.”
