FÖRSTERLING ON AMAZING START TO 2024 SEASON

Alexandra Försterling

Alexandra Försterling has been in a whirlwind for the past six months having accumulated three victories on the Ladies European Tour (LET).

The German star was a rookie in 2023 and secured her first win at the VP Bank Swiss Ladies Open in September.

She followed that up with a second victory at the Mallorca Golf Ladies Open in November and just a few months later, the 24-year-old has another win to her name.

Försterling sealed her third LET title in the Individual event at the Aramco Team Series Presented by PIF – Tampa.

“It was just so much fun playing being out there and playing,” she said. “It definitely didn’t play easy with the wind. I just tried to play my own game and stay in the present and really have fun.

“Overall, my game was just really consistent and my irons were really good. That’s definitely helps in the wind. We had a really good strategy overall for the course, which helped and then just adjusted to the wind.”

The ASU graduate ended 2023 eighth in the LET Order of Merit and second in the Rookie of the Year contest.

While, she also secured some status on the LPGA Tour after finishing T27 at Q-Series in December.

Försterling was already thrilled with the year having started with a T8 finish at the Magical Kenya Ladies Open and T12 at the Aramco Saudi Ladies International Presented by PIF before winning in Tampa.

She explained: “Coming out of the break, you’ve never really know where your game is at. I was basically pretty much all indoors during the winter, but I was really happy with a top 10 finish in Kenya and played great at Saudi and now here. It’s just amazing.

“I really just tried to do everything that I knew already. I didn’t change much over the \winter and I just tried to work more on my short game, as I always do.”

Following her victory Stateside, the three-time LET winner sits second in the LET Order of Merit behind leader Bronte Law.

She has also moved into the second automatic qualifying spot in the LET Solheim Cup points list.

But that came as something of a surprise despite having beaten Solheim Cup stars Charley Hull and Carlota Ciganda in Tampa.

“It is unexpected a little bit,” she commented. “It’s always a dream. When you’re a little kid you always dream about playing Solheim Cup one year.

“I still remember the one time where I watched in St. Leon-Rot when it was Germany. Playing in this and representing Europe would be amazing.

“The win definitely gives me a lot of confidence that I can compete at the same level as [Charley and Carlota] and also have the knowledge that my game is really where I should be.

“It obviously always can be better. But it just gives me a lot of confidence and knowing that I can just trust myself.”
