The 2020 Aberdeen Standard Investments Ladies Scottish Open is underway after a two-hour fog delay forced competitors to wait to get their season back up-and-running at The Renaissance Golf Club, North Berwick.
Despite being up at 3.25am to prepare for her round, The Race to Costa Del Sol leader Julia Engstrom, started her day with a birdie on the par 4 first hole, only to be outdone by Spain’s Azahara Munoz. Paired with Julia in the first group, The Solheim Cup went one better, holing her second shot with a seven-iron from 148 yards for an eagle, to quickly assume her position atop the leaderboard and become an early contender for the ‘Shot of the Day presented by Loch Lomond Whiskies.
Gemma Dryburgh, who struck the first tee shot at 8.30am, playing in the same group as Engstrom and Munoz, bogeyed the second hole but proceeded to birdie five of the next six holes to take a two stroke lead through the turn, on four-under-par.
