The Ladies European Tour (LET) is back on the road this week and has taken a trip to the United States for the next stop of the 2024 season.
Clearwater and more specifically Feather Sound Country Club is the host for this week’s Aramco Team Series Presented by PIF – Tampa.
Before the tournament gets underway on Friday, here are a few talking points to look out for…
Defending champions back for more
The defending champions from both the Individual and Team competition at last year’s Aramco Team Series – Florida are back and ready to try and retain their titles.
Spain’s Carlota Ciganda secured her seventh LET title clinching a one-shot victory at West Palm Beach and will be hoping for more success in the Sunshine State.
It was Team Roussin who came out on top last year with Pauline Roussin-Bouchard winning alongside Nuria Iturrioz and Trish Johnson, and the French captain had a good finish last time out in Morocco.
Unique format returns
The format for the Aramco Team Series Presented by PIF events will continue in 2024 the same way it was in 2023 with both the Team and Individual competitions being played simultaneously.
The Team competition will be played over 36-holes over the first two days with the best two scores counting, while the Individual is a 54-hole stroke play competition with the last round just having the top-60 professionals and ties competing.
There are 84 professionals teeing it up this week and there will be 28 teams contending for the top prize. Each team will consist of three professionals and one amateur with captains decided based upon the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings on Monday 26th February. The Draft will see captains pick in reverse order of ranking.
Former winners hoping for more success
With the opportunity to win an Individual LET title, as well as being part of a winning team, this event allows players to be more aggressive and bring their best game to the golf course.
Having been a regular staple on the LET schedule for the past three seasons, there are plenty of players who have found success in this format and will be hoping to replicate that this week.
Former Individual champions in the field are Marianne Skarpnord, Pia Babnik, Lexi Thompson, Charley Hull, Carlota Ciganda, Chiara Noja, Manon De Roey, Pauline Roussin-Bouchard and Bronte Law.
Solheim Cup stars aplenty
Carlota Ciganda of Spain is just one of the many Solheim Cup stars who will be teeing it up at Feather Sound Country Club this week.
She is joined by England’s Charley Hull and Bronte Law, Dutch star Anne Van Dam, Sweden’s Caroline Hedwall, as well as Germany’s Sophia Popov – who is returning to competition for the first time since having her daughter.
While there is also a strong U.S. contingent with Lexi Thompson, Marina Alex, Megan Khang and newly announced Assistant Captain Brittany Lincicome all in town.
2024 winners in town
After a three-week stretch to start the season, there has been a one-week break between the Lalla Meryem Cup and the Aramco Team Series – Tampa.
Shannon Tan and Bronte Law, who won the Magical Kenya Ladies Open and Lalla Meryem Cup respectively, will both be looking to build on their good starts to the season.
It is a strong field this week with 11 of the 12 players who finished in the top 10 and ties in Morocco teeing it up in Tampa.
