FIVE TALKING POINTS AHEAD OF THE VOLVO CAR SCANDINAVIAN MIXED

The European swing continues on the Ladies European Tour (LET) with a second week in Sweden as we head to the Volvo Car Scandinavian Mixed.

It’s the third edition of the tournament and this year will be played at Ulnna Golf Club which is just north of Stockholm.

Before the tournament gets underway, here are a few talking points to look out for…

Innovative format

The LET and the DP World Tour will come together once more this week for the co-sanctioned event which is being held for the third time in its history.

The innovative mixed format sees 78 men and 78 women playing for the same prize fund of USD $2,000,000 and one trophy.

While at the start of this week, there is also a G4D event being held with equal numbers of men and women competing on Monday and Tuesday for their own title.

Defending champion back for more success

Linn Grant made history in 2022 when she became the first female to win on the DP World Tour after storming to a nine-shot victory at the Volvo Car Scandinavian Mixed.

The Swedish star had the week of her life at Halmstad Golf Club to create a piece of history, which was also her third LET title of the year at that point.

Since then, Grant won the 2022 Race to Costa del Sol and has already notched up a victory on the LET in 2023 winning the Jabra Ladies Open a few weeks ago and she’ll be looking to defend her title at Ullna Golf Club this week.

Swedes aplenty

Grant is not the only Swedish player in town as there will be no fewer than 26 of them teeing it up this week in the stunning setting of Ullna Golf Club.

Legend of the game Annika Sörenstam is here as is Solheim Cup star Madelene Sagström alongside seven-time LET winner Caroline Hedwall, 2023 Helsingborg Open champion Lisa Pettersson, Johanna Gustavsson – who came third in the 2022 Race to Costa del Sol.

On the men’s side, they will also be joined by Alex Noren, Simon Forsström, Sebastian Soderberg, Alexander Bjork, Marcus Kinhult, Jonas Blixt, Kristoffer Broberg and Mikael Lindberg.

Race to Costa del Sol heating up

With ten events of the 2023 LET season complete, the season-long Race to Costa del Sol is starting to heat up as we head toward a busy summer.

Six of the top 10 are competing this week in Sweden and there are a few players who will be hoping to overtake Aditi Ashok as number one with Spain’s Ana Peláez Trivino, Sweden’s Linn Grant and Czechia’s Klara Davidson Spilkova currently in second, third and fourth place, respectively.

Three first-time winners on the LET this season are also vying to improve their position with England’s Lily May Humphreys, Sweden’s Lisa Pettersson and Germany’s Patricia Isabel Schmidt all teeing it up this week.

Sustainability at the forefront again

The Volvo Car Scandinavian Mixed is a tournament that puts sustainability front and centre with initiatives celebrating the environment, as well as supporting social aspects.

No generators are being used this week with all buggies being electric, and there is a remote TV production from ETP which reduces the number of people on site.

There is also a big focus on local produce and suppliers – 40% of which is vegan food – with all food waste going to local charities.
