FIVE TALKING POINTS AHEAD OF THE ISPS HANDA WOMEN’S SCOTTISH OPEN

The summer stretch of the Ladies European Tour (LET) season continues this week with the ISPS HANDA Women’s Scottish Open.

Dundonald Links is hosting the LPGA-LET co-sanctioned tournament for the third consecutive year.

Before play gets started, here are five things to watch out for…

AIG Women’s Open places up for grabs

It is the first of two weeks in Scotland for the LET and LPGA as the ISPS HANDA Women’s Scottish Open and AIG Women’s Open take place in back-to-back weeks.

For those who haven’t already secured their spot at the iconic Old Course at St Andrews, there is the opportunity to qualify through this week’s tournament.

The top three players who make the cut, who are not already exempt, will clinch their spot and qualify for the 2024 AIG Women’s Open.

Boutier back to defend her title

Celine Boutier is back at a place where she has had plenty of success in the past, after she won the 2023 Women’s Scottish Open by two strokes.

The Major champion finished in second place here in 2022 before capturing her fifth LET title here last August.

Having finished in a tie for 22nd place at the Olympic Games, Boutier comes into this week ready for another test on the modern links course.

A stellar field at Dundonald Links

In preparation for next week’s AIG Women’s Open, plenty of the players have decided to get accustomed to links golf by playing the ISPS HANDA Women’s Scottish Open.

Five of the world’s top 10 are in town with world number two Lilia Vu leading the charge of American stars.

Celine Boutier is not the only former champion teeing it up, she is also joined by Japan’s Ayaka Furure, Americans Stacy Lewis and Ryann O’Toole, Thailand’s Ariya Jutanugarn and Korea’s Mi Hyang Lee.

Olympic medallists in town

Le Golf National played host to the Olympic women’s golf competition last week which saw Lydia Ko crowned Olympic champion and the New Zealander gained the final point she needed to enter the LPGA Hall of Fame.

Having completed the Olympic medal collection, Ko will be teeing it up at the Women’s Scottish hoping to have another good week.

Silver medallist Esther Henseleit, who became the first European to win a medal in women’s golf at the Olympics, is also playing this week.

Solheim Cup crunch time

The 2024 Solheim Cup is less than a month away and it is just a couple of weeks until the European and U.S. teams get decided.

With the qualification period ending at the conclusion of the AIG Women’s Open, Team Europe will announce the four picks on Monday 26th August with the U.S. Team announcing their picks on Tuesday 27th August.

The players hoping to qualify have two weeks left to try and impress the captains and see if they can secure their spot at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in September.
