The sixth event of the 2023 LET season is here and it’s the first of the Aramco Team Series presented by Public Investment Fund events which is taking place in Singapore.
Laguna National is staging the tournament which sees 78 professionals teeing it up in two competitions being played side by side.
Before the tournament gets underway, here are a few points to look out for…
Team and Individual competitions return
The format is the same as last year with the Individual and Team competitions being played simultaneously. The Team competition will be played over 36-holes over the first two days with the best two scores counting, while the Individual is a 54-hole stroke play competition with the last round just having the top-60 professionals and ties competing.
Teams will consist of three professionals and one amateur; the team captains were decided based upon the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings on Monday 6th March. The Draft will see captains pick in reverse rank order e.g. the 26th ranked captain will pick first with the best-ranked captain picking last.
De Roey back as defending champion
In May of last year, Belgium’s Manon De Roey secured her maiden LET title by winning the Individual competition at the Aramco Team Series – Bangkok.
Thai Country Club was the venue where the Belgian ended up clinching a three-shot victory to win on the LET for the first time.
The 31-year-old heads into this week in fine form having had three top-10 finishes to start the season with T9 in Kenya, T7 in Morocco and T3 at the Aramco Saudi Ladies International.
World number one in town
Lydia Ko, who sits at number one in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings, will be competing in her first Aramco Team Series event.
The New Zealander triumphed on the LET just a few weeks ago winning the 2023 Aramco Saudi ladies International and followed that up with T6 in Thailand and T31 in Singapore on the LPGA Tour.
Proven winners aplenty
The unique format of this event allows players to bring their best game and there are a number of former Individual champions in the field this week.
Denmark’s Emily Kristine Pedersen, Norway’s Marianne Skarpnord, Slovenia’s Pia Babnik, Belgium’s Manon De Roey, England’s Bronte Law and Germany’s Chiara Noja will all be vying for more success this week.
Pelaez Trivino and Humphreys head to Singapore in form
Spain’s Ana Pelaez Trivino also heads into this week on a streak of form having finished as a runner-up at both tournaments in South Africa, and sits second on the 2023 Race to Costa del Sol.
While England’s Lily May Humphreys booked her spot in this tournament two weeks ago when she won her maiden LET title at the Joburg Ladies Open after producing a final round of 67 (-6) and last week secured the Investec Order of Merit title on the Sunshine Ladies Tour.
