First round under way at OMEGA Dubai Ladies Masters

The 10th edition of the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters teed off in fine conditions at Emirates Golf Club this morning with a fresh new guard of exciting young stars lining up to do battle on the emerald green fairways of the Majlis course.

China’s Shanshan Feng is bidding to become the first woman to claim three Omega Dubai Ladies Masters titles after winning in 2012 and then again 12 months ago.

Feng has plenty of rivals challenging her including England’s Charley Hull, with finishes of eighth and fifth in the past two editions and Pornanong Phatlum from Thailand who won two years ago.

Elsewhere in the field, rising American star Paige Spiranac (pictured) brings an army of social media followers to engage with the tournament and Moroccan Maha Haddioui is teeing off Arab women’s hopes.

England’s Liz Young made the best start to the tournament when she birdied her first four holes from the 10th early in the first round. The 33-year-old from Hampshire finished fifth in the tournament last year and was also fifth in the Hero Women’s Indian Open recently. She is being chased by top ranked LET rookie Emily Kristine Pedersen, Frenchwoman Jade Schaeffer, Dame Laura Davies and the 2015 ISPS HANDA Ladies European Masters winner Beth Allen of the USA.
