Denmark’s Emily Kristine Pedersen wrote her name in the history books on day one at the 2023 Solheim Cup as she became only the second golfer to make a hole-in-one in the biennial competition.
One down in her fourball match playing with Maja Stark against Jennifer Kupcho and Allisen Corpuz, Pedersen dialled in a 7-iron on the par-3 12th which caught the edge of the green before rolling into the cup to cause jubilant scenes.
“It was sick!” Pedersen said after earning a halve in her afternoon match. “It was the most ecstatic I’ve ever been on a golf course. My throat is still sore from all the screaming.”
The hole-in-one enters the record books as the second ever ace hit in the Solheim Cup after Anna Nordqvist holed out at the 2013 edition.
With Team Europe 4-0 down to USA at the time, the historic ace gave Suzann Pettersen’s side a much needed boost following a disappointing morning on day one at Finca Cortesin.
Pedersen and Stark would go on to halve their match against Kupcho and Corpuz in Spain – helped by a birdie on the last – while Team Europe won 2.5 more points in the afternoon to bring the scores to 5-3.
The three-time Solheim Cup star continued: “It just boosted the momentum for Maja and I and it was unbelievable.”
