The future stars of Dutch women’s golf made a special visit to the Deloitte Ladies Open during the first round on Friday, when five members of the junior national team had the opportunity to meet and learn from the top professionals on the Ladies European Tour.
Christine Scholten, Anne-Sterre den Dunnen, Sophie Teerink, Noa van Beek and Daphne van Son, all aged between 12-14, were given an education talk from the Ladies European Tour’s Development Department and also watched the players on the course, before meeting them afterwards for an educational Q&A session.
The activity forms part of the #LETDevelops initiative which exists to promote the organisation’s aspiration for the development of golf globally.
The LET’s Development Director Mike Round commented: “We are delighted to be in a position to connect the junior golfers with their role models, which will inspire them as they continue to develop their games. The Ladies European Tour is committed to working closely with National Golf Federations in the countries where we play tournaments and through interlinking with their excellent programmes, we are confident that we can help to grow the game.
“Today, the NGF National Girls Golf Team are attending the tournament, which is one of a range of activities we are supporting, with the joint aim to get more girls into golf.”
Myrte Eikenaar, coordinator of Topgolf NGF, said: “I think the thing that inspires girls the most is to see their dream and where they want to be in real life. It’s great to have a big event in the Netherlands because the girls can get really close to the players and see how they prepare for a championship. They can actually meet a few and get even more inspired than they were, prior to playing on the tour in the next ten years.
“It’s great that they are able to learn how the Ladies European Tour works and what goes on behind the scenes because most of the time you tee off and play, you don’t really see what goes on behind the scenes. I think it’s great to understand how much work goes into making an event like this happen and also to meet the players and ask them how they got to where they are now and how they are achieving their goals.”
