Ginnie Ding got off to a good start in her professional career securing her Ladies European Tour (LET) card at Lalla Aicha Q-School in December.
The 22-year-old graduated from Vanderbilt University last year and turned professional soon afterwards.
Ding fired rounds of 75-69-67-71-67 to become the first player from Hong Kong to secure full LET status.
“I feel great,” she said. “Honestly, I don’t think it’s hit me yet, but I feel really good. It was a smooth day with nine birdies and a couple of bogeys. It was great to see familiar faces and play well again.
“It’s a course that suits me; there’s a lot of par-5s which I’m able to use my distance and take advantage of. Just being in this environment pushes me to do better.”
Ding follows in the footsteps of fellow Hong Kong professional Tiffany Chan, who secured Category 16 status for the 2024 season.
The LET rookie has played in one LET event previously as an amateur finishing in T63 at the 2023 Women’s Scottish Open.
Ding is proud to be representing her home country and hopes to inspire girls to take up the game of golf.
“I’m from Hong Kong, I grew up there and I played four years at Vanderbilt University,” she continued.
“I just graduated, so still a baby at this whole professional golf thing. I’m super excited, I honestly didn’t come into this with high expectations but maybe this will help me in the long run.
“It means a lot to me; it means a lot to my community and means a lot to the people who support me. The Hong Kong Golf Association has supported me for the longest time. There are not many girls who turn professional in golf from Hong Kong. It means a lot and I hope I can be some sort of role model for other girls there.”
