Davies hunting another top ten

Dame Laura Davies tied for ninth place in last year’s Ricoh Women’s British Open at Royal Birkdale and now the World Golf Hall of Fame member is hunting another top ten in the championship at Trump Turnberry.

The 79-time tournament winner is playing well. She tied for 27th place at last week’s Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open at Dundonald Links after rounds of 71, 71 and 80, but she was seventh in the recent ISPS HANDA Ladies European Masters, where she earned one million IHG® Rewards Club Points as the player who scored the most points over four rounds and was third in the Turkish Airlines Ladies Open.

“Another Top‑10 finish in this championship would help a great deal. Tee‑to‑green it’s good. I’m starting to hole a few putts, so you never know,” said the 12-time Solheim Cup player, who hopes to qualify for the matches taking place at Golf Club St. Leon-Rot on 18-20 September.

“I kind of need the same again, because although I’m hitting it well, my position on the money list is not great.”

Davies is currently 19th on the LET order of merit after seven tournaments played this season and ninth on the Solheim Cup points ranking.

She needs to be inside the top four on the points list before the last counting tournament, the Tipsport Ladies Masters in the Czech Republic, in order to qualify.

Otherwise she would need to be among the next four highest ranked European players on the world rankings or rely on a pick from Captain Carin Koch when she names her four selections on Tuesday, August 25th.

With 74 Solheim Cup points, Davies sits behind Suzann Pettersen, Gwladys Nocera, Charley Hull, Carlota Ciganda, Anna Nordqvist, Melissa Reid, Holly Clyburn and Azahara Munoz on the points list.

She needs a top three finish or better, worth 40 points, in order to overtake Ciganda into fourth place, provided that Ciganda is doesn’t earn any points by finishing in the top 20.

A second place finish at the Ricoh Women’s British Open is worth 60 points and a win is worth 80, meaning that Davies could not overtake third placed Charley Hull this week.
