(Singapore, February 2 2005) European women’s number one Laura Davies from England may not have hit a golf ball for eight weeks, but the legend of 66 tournament victories arrived at Laguna National G&CC in determined spirit as she bids to defend her order of merit title and begin 2005 with a strong showing at the inaugural $200,000 Samsung Ladies Masters, which begins on Thursday.

With a career spanning 20 years at the top level, Davies still harbours a burning desire to add to her tally of victories, complete a career grand slam of majors and represent Europe for the ninth time in The Solheim Cup later this year.
Her travel schedule over the next few weeks is a hectic one. Next week Davies will play in the Women’s World Cup of Golf in South Africa alongside Karen Stupples before moving down to Australia for two more events including the ANZ Ladies Masters, a title she has won on three occasions.
Davies then heads to Hawaii and then Mexico in the lead up to the year’s first women’s major, the Kraft Nabisco Championship, the only major absent from her glittering CV.
“I’ve got lots to achieve, there’s plenty to do yet,” Davies said in response to a suggestion she was perhaps in the twilight of her career with little else to achieve.
“Vijay Singh is 43 and he’s just become the world number one!
“I still want to go out and try and win every tournament, I know that’s probably not possible but I want to try and win as many tournaments as I can this year, still compete at the highest level in the game and see if I can add the only major I haven’t won, the Kraft Nabisco Championship, I’d love to win that. I love the course at Mission Hills had my chances on three occasions…maybe this year.”
