As the new Ladies European Tour season gets underway in Australia this week, Dame Laura Davies is ready to contend for her fourth RACV Ladies Masters at RACV Royal Pines Resort.
The tournament winner in 1993, 1994 and 2003 holds the record for the most LET wins with 45 and will be looking for her first LET title since the Indian Open in November 2010.
With her two Australian Open wins in 2004 and 2009, Davies has enjoyed great success down under and is a crowd favourite.
She has been played in the Ladies’ Masters at Royal Pines every year since 1992 and considers Australia like her second home.
“If I could get down here and have the chance the play the Masters at Royal Pines, it’s always guaranteed that I’m going to do it,” said Davies.
“Obviously there’s been tournaments in America I’ve missed so I can come down here to play in Australia because that’s how much I enjoy it. I love the set up, I love the lifestyle down here.
“This is just the perfect way to start your season and get your game hopefully into top form.”
Davies enjoyed the perfect warm-up for the LET season by tying for eighth place in the Australian Ladies’ Professional Golf Tour’s Oates Victorian Open last week and she added: “It was literally the first time I’ve played a tournament in 10 weeks, so that was a pretty nice start to the year.”
Now in her 31st season on tour, Davies believes she can buck the trend of increasingly young winners on tour, with the help of her new golf clubs having changed manufacturer after 19 years.
“Because of the new clubs I was getting, I went on the range a few times over the winter, but yeah, not too much,” Davies said. “Because I don’t spend a huge amount of time on the range and practising in between tournaments, that’s where I play more events than most of the girls.”
