DAGAR WINS GOLD MEDAL AT 2025 DEAFLYMPICS

Indian trailblazer Diksha Dagar secured the Gold Medal at the 2025 Deaflympics in Tokyo, defending her crown with a 14-stroke victory in the three-day competition.

Having triumphed at the 2021 Games, Dagar, the first and only golfer to compete at both the Deaflympics and Olympic Games, carded rounds of 68-65-70 at Wakasu Golf Links to win on 11-under par.

France’s Margaux Brejo picked up the Silver Medal with Canada’s Erica Dawn Rivard claiming Bronze.

“It’s a moment of great pride and satisfaction to win another medal for India,” Dagar said, who also won Silver at the inaugural 2017 edition. “I am very happy and want to thank everyone who has supported me. It was a nice but busy week!”

The Indian star was joined by her father in Tokyo, Colonel Narinder Dagar, who caddied for the left-hander as she claimed Gold.

“I had to compete against girls from 20 different countries,” she explains. “I stuck to my plan, attacking the flags on par-5s and focusing on my short game and approach shots.”

A two-time winner on the Ladies European Tour (LET), Dagar has been hearing impaired since birth, wearing hearing aids and learning to read lips from an early age.

The 24-year-old is the first deaf athlete to represent India at the Olympic Games having competed in Tokyo and Paris last summer. Thanks to her trailblazing success and services to golf in her country, the Indian received the prestigious Arjuna Award in 2023.

Dagar will now head to Spain following her amazing achievement for the season-ending Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España presented by OYSHO. Currently ranked 23rd in the LET Order of Merit, Dagar will be aiming to end the year on a high when the competition gets underway on November 27.
