COWLEY HOPING TO FINISH WITH A FLOURISH AT SEASON FINALE

Gabriella Cowley

Gabriella Cowley is happy to be having a good week on the golf course at the Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España.

After a few weeks of struggles, the Englishwoman is healthy and playing well at Real Club de Golf Las Brisas.

Cowley produced a bogey-free round of 67 (-5) to move herself into contention and sit on eight-under-par after 54 holes.

“Today was probably the best I played; the first two days was a little bit of a struggle,” she said. “I have been playing pretty good, just a few holes, but today it all clicked and I had it going. It was nice to birdie the last because it could have been a bit better, but it was a good day.

“The course is great; a really nice layout and the condition is good, and the weather is helping. It’s nice to be playing well on it.

“I have had a bit of a rough month; the first two weeks was a back injury and then last week I had a tooth infection so to come here with not anything wrong me has been quite nice. I’ve been able to focus on the golf and focus on my prep and do everything that I need.”

Cowley currently sits 14th in the 2023 Race to Costa del Sol but if she were to get into the top 10 spots, which would qualify her for the Final Stage of LPGA Q-Series, she wouldn’t go this time.

She added: “No, I made the decision a couple of weeks ago that I wasn’t going to go to LPGA Q-Series if I get in the top 10. I want to secure my name on the LET first, if I had a win, it might have been a little bit different to have thing to back you up. It’s a little bit too risky right now, LPGA is somewhere I do want to play and do want to go to but I think right now I’m going to stay on the LET.”
