South Africa’s Casandra Alexander secured her maiden Ladies European Tour (LET) title earlier this season and has been on a consistent run of form since.
The 26-year-old is in contention once again this season sitting in a share of second place after two rounds of the Lacoste Ladies Open de France.
The South African star produced rounds of 68-65 on the first two days to be one shot behind leader Anna Huang with 18 holes remaining.
“Day one was a bit slow, I made a couple of mistakes,” she said. “Early on I played well and then I finished not so great. Today was better, I tried keeping it a little tidier. A bit of a slow back nine, but you can’t complain when you’re six-under.
“My putting was a little better today, I made a couple of hallelujah putts which helped, and I think the tee shots were a little better. I’m struggling a little with my driver, I’m hitting it a bit like a grandma but it’s going straight so it will work for now. It was just a couple more putts today that sealed the deal.”
Earlier this season, Alexander fired a round of 62 (-10) in the final round of the Tipsport Czech Ladies Open to win her maiden trophy on the LET.
In the following months, the South African star has contended at majors finishing in 20th place at the Amundi Evian Championship and T40 at the AIG Women’s Open, as well as two top-15 finishes and one top-10 in Houston.
The LET winner sits in sixth in the LET Order of Merit with 1,466.61 points and believes all the hard work she’s been putting in is paying off.
“I’ve been working so hard with my team for so long and it’s nice to see everything come to light,” continued Alexander. “Often when this happens in sport you wait for the dip to come, but it hasn’t yet which is really nice.
“I also just feel more comfortable, I have been out here a few years and you try and find your place in the Tour. For example, on the Sunshine Ladies Tour in South Africa I know when I get there I’m going to have a good round and I can compete against the best girls there and I’m starting to feel that way on the LET, which is exciting, because our golf [standard] has gone up as a Tour completely.
“If you look at the scores every week and when we go and play majors. I think my game is heading into a more consistent and better place which is what the team and I have been working on. I haven’t hit the ball great the past couple of weeks, but I get it around and that’s exactly what you want because you’re never going to wake up and one day everything works.”
