Ideal, calm conditions for the morning field could see some low numbers today in the opening round of the Investec South African Women’s Open at Westlake Golf Club in Cape Town.
Scottish second-year professional Hannah McCook birdied the second and sixth holes to take the early lead, but then bogeyed the ninth hole, for an outward nine of 35.
Starting from the 10th tee, Korean third-year professional EunJung Ji joined her at two-under after a bogey, an eagle and a birdie in her first six holes, while Germany’s Laura Fuenfstueck then birdied the third and sixth to share the lead.
Most of the big guns are out this morning, including the Race to Costa Del Sol leader Julia Engström from Sweden and the defending champion Diksha Dagar of India, as well as local players Ashleigh Buhai and Lee-Anne Pace, who are both targeting a fourth Investec South African Women’s Open crown.
