Ciganda wins again in Mexico

Carlota Ciganda won the ninth staging of the CitiBanamex Lorena Ochoa Invitational Presented by Aeromexico and Delta at -13 and earned $200,000. Ciganda came from one shot back to win her second LPGA title over a crowded group in second place, including Austin Ernst, Sarah Jane Smith, Angela Stanford, Karine Icher and Jodi Ewart Shadoff.

Ernst entered the final round with a one-shot lead, but Ciganda made eagle on two, birdies at six, 11 and 17 to secure her lead heading into the 18th hole, winning by two.

Ciganda, who held a share of the first-round lead, was emotional with the win because her parents got to see her victory and didn’t see her first win in Korea.

“I am just very happy that they are both here and it is very special because they are great people, they always tell me to have fun, they always give me a lot of calm, so I want to thank them,” Ciganda said.

“Right now I am really happy and calmed both inside and outside of the course. So, I think I just have to follow this same path, same strategy, enjoy, and I’m just excited about going back to Spain and celebrate it with family and friends.”
