CIGANDA HAPPY WITH SOLID START IN SPAIN

Carlota Ciganda

Carlota Ciganda got off to a solid start on the first day of the Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España producing a round of 68.

The Spanish star, who won this tournament in 2021, carded a round of four-under-par to place herself nicely within the top 10.

Seven-time LET winner Ciganda rolled in her first birdie on the fifth before adding another on the sixth and third on the eighth.

The Solheim Cup winner rolled in her fourth of the day on the 10th hole at Real Club de Golf Las Brisas.

Her only dropped shot of the day came at the 13th but she soon bounced back with a birdie on 16 to end the day on four-under-par.

“It’s a nice course,” said Ciganda. “It was pretty windy, so I don’t think it was that easy today. I’m pretty happy with the round.

“I just had one bogey and there were a couple of holes I would have liked to have played better. Other than that, very solid with five birdies and one bogey.

“You just have to be very focussed with the wind. I have a pretty good caddie and he knows how the shots are playing. He did great on the wind. I’m excited for the next couple of days.

“I love playing here, it always motivates me to do well in my home country. I have a lot of family and friends watching, so I really want to play good for them.”
