The 2015 US Women’s British Open champion Chun In Gee remained on track to make history with the lowest winning score in Major Championship history at the Evian Championship today.
The 72-hole scoring record of 10 under par was set by Jason Day at last year’s PGA Championship and equalled by Henrik Stenson in this year’s Open Championship.
The 22-year-old Chun, from South Korea, started the day at 19-under-par which was a 54-hole scoring record in a Major Championship, with a four stroke lead over Park Sung Hyun.
After teeing off in light rain, Park bogeyed the first hole and Chun made par to earn a five stroke lead. Chun then birdied the third to get to 20 under and then birdied the short eighth to move to 21 under par and six shots ahead.
Chun turned in 33 with a five stroke lead over Feng, who birdied three holes in a row from the seventh only to double bogey the 10th.
Park moved back into solo second with a birdie on the 10th.
If she holds her lead, Chun will join Se Ri Pak in becoming the only players whose first two LPGA wins were Majors.
She would also become the fifth South Korean winner from the first 12 tournaments on the 2016 Ladies European Tour schedule, joining Jiyai Shin (RACV Ladies Masters), Jung Min Lee (World Ladies Championship), Inbee Park (Olympic golf competition) and In-Kyung Kim (ISPS HANDA Ladies European Masters) and the eighth Asian winner on the 2016 Ladies European Tour.
