LET Rookie Jia Yun Li from China soared up the leader board after firing a nine under par 63 in the final round of the Sanya Ladies Open on Sunday morning.
The 25-year-old from Guangzhou, just a one hour flight away, recorded 10 birdies and one bogey in hot conditions with a light breeze at Yalong Bay Golf Club in tropical Hainan.
She set the target at nine under par for the tournament, after opening rounds of 71 and 73.
“Everything was really good. The irons were good and the putting was good so everything went into the hole,” said Li, who had 24 putts and holed two long ones at hole five, from 10 yards uphill and at hole 10, from eight yards uphill.
“I think because I teed off yesterday morning, today the wind did not feel very strong so it felt easier than yesterday.”
Li looked set to record her career best finish on the LET as the final stages of play were under way.
Overnight leader Ye Na Chung from South Korea started the round with a one stroke lead over Lee-Anne Pace of South Africa and the status quo remained with Chung a shot clear at the turn on 13 under.
Both players played the front nine in one under par, Chung with birdies on holes three and seven and a bogey on eight, and Pace with three birdies against two bogeys.
Three players were at 11-under after 12, 11 and 10 holes respectively: Yu Yang Zhang of China, Sweden’s Linda Wessberg and 15-year-old Yu Ting Shi from China.
Whoever wins this afternoon, it is set to be another successful tournament for the young professionals from China.
