“It is comforting to know your way around the club and the golf course. But what I’m looking forward to most is having my parents come over from the US for the week. It will be great to have them there.
“And hopefully a few of the club members will also be around to watch. I always enjoy playing in front of people and if I happen to know them it makes it all the better.”
But one club member won’t be there just to watch: student Johannsdottir – who has been a member at Chart Hills since 1998 – plays off one and was delighted to be offered the chance of a spot in the event.
She said: “I’m just so honoured to be playing in this tournament. I also feel very privileged to be playing with the professionals on the European Tour; it’s just fantastic. I am very grateful to everybody involved.”
Another interesting inclusion in the field is Yorkshire-based teenager Kiran Matharu, who also received a sponsor’s invite.
The 17-year-old, from Leeds, is one of the fastest-rising talents in English golf.
She is the current Sony Sports Awards junior female sports personality of the year, a two-time winner of the prestigious Faldo Series, was the lowest handicapped golfer in Great Britain at +3.4 and the reigning English Ladies Amateur champion.
