Charley’s challenge ends with a 69

Local player Charley Hull is back in the clubhouse with a final round of 69 (-3) and ended her home championship with a total of five-under.

It was a great effort from the 20-year-old, who hit the turn in 31 after five birdies on the front nine, before a double bogey on 13 and two bogeys on 14 and 16.

“It was great fun. It was brilliant. I’ve enjoyed the whole week,” said Hull. “Today I played great, apart from the last six holes. It was unfortunate. But I felt like my game is in good shape.

“I played good. I just got put on at clock. A little bit unfortunate in that respect. Made me rush a little bit when I didn’t need — but apart from that, I played great, and I’m happy with my round.”

Next up is a trip to Rio on August 14 for the women’s Olympic golf competition at Reserva de Marapendi.

“I’m looking forward to Rio and hopefully a big event. I’m buzzing for it. I’m excited, I’ve never played in South America before,” she said. “(The chance) to get any medal there is going to be awesome. Definitely think my game is in good shape and it’s going to be good.”

Hull will represent Team GB along with Catriona Matthew in the women’s golf competition from August 17-20, while the men’s event will be played the week prior on August 11-14.
