Charley Hull is looking to follow her success in Morocco with a second straight Ladies European Tour victory when the Turkish Airlines Ladies Open gets under way at National Golf Club in Belek, Antalya, this Thursday.
The 18-year-old Solheim Cup star tied for second last year at The National, ending a stroke behind the winner Lee-Anne Pace of South Africa, and also finished fifth in 2012 as a 16-year-old amateur.
“I like the golf course. I think it’s going to be tight and I think if you play well you can go low, but the past few years the scores have been high,” said Hull, after spending a week at home practising. “I’m looking forward to relaxing as well, as the hotels are really good in Turkey and it will be a fun tournament.”
The current Ladies European Tour ISPS HANDA Order of Merit leader, Hull’s recent spell in the United States resulted in a tie for seventh at the Kraft Nabisco Championship followed by a trip to The Masters in Augusta, where she was invited by Sky Sports television.
Despite her growing international profile she remains completely grounded and didn’t even watch her recent BBC documentary, preferring to focus on her golf and prepare for this week in Turkey.
“I don’t have any goals for this week. I’ll just try and do what I usually do: hit the ball, find it and hit it again,” she said.
The Turkish Airlines Ladies Open is the sixth tournament on the 2014 Ladies European Tour schedule and features an international field of 126 golfers from 32 different countries, including four amateurs from Turkey. Leading players in the field include former winners Lee-Anne Pace (2013) and Melissa Reid (2010), Gwladys Nocera, Laura Davies, Holly Clyburn, Diana Luna, Trish Johnson and Sophie Gustafson.
All four rounds will be televised live by international broadcasters including Sky Sports 4, Sport TV Golfe, AB Golf/GC, Sportklub Golf and Golf Channel. The tournament will also be shown live on the LET YouTube channel in countries where the event is not being televised with daily highlights also available.
