CELEBRATING THE FOUNDERS: MAXINE BURTON

To celebrate our 45th anniversary, the LET wants to recognise the sacrifice and devotion of this group of distinguished women and honour them through a video series named ‘Celebrating the Founders’.

During their 45th reunion at Thorpeness Golf Club, the LET met and interviewed eight of the founding members and two early members to learn about the early years on tour, what they’ve done since and reflect on how far the LET has come.

One such woman was Maxine Burton, a two-time winner on the LET and chairman of the LET in 1986.

Hear more about Burton’s story by watching episode three of our ‘Celebrating the Founders’ series below.

With both parents as golfers, Burton took up the beautiful game early and eventually turned professional in 1978.

Two years later Burton secured her first Tour win at the Carlsberg Championship – Arcot Hall before following it up with a second win at the La Manga Spanish Open.

Spending a total of 13 years on Tour and securing 43 top-10 finishes, Burton became a PGA professional coach and in 2017 was made an honorary member of the PGA.

Burton laid the way for future LET winners. Her part in building and managing our tour must be celebrated.
