In her second year on tour in 2013, the Spanish sensation was one of five Solheim Cup rookies on the victorious European team at Colorado Golf Club and she built a 100 per cent record by winning all three of her matches.
Carlota made her Cup debut playing alongside Suzann Pettersen in the first day four balls and the pair defeated Stacy Lewis and Lexi Thompson 1 up.
Her second four-ball match with friend and compatriot Azahara Muñoz on Saturday afternoon against Gerina Piller and Angela Stanford, which they also won 1 up, was one of the high points of the event and Carlota says:
“When I made the putt to win with Azahara playing against Gerina Piller and Angela Stanford in the second day four balls on the last green to win by 1, I always remember that.”
Carlota sealed her perfect record with a 4&2 win over Morgan Pressel in the singles on the final day.
“In golf there are not many opportunities to play as a team. I love feeling the team atmosphere and playing foursome and four balls,” she said. “It’s a very special week. You make new friends and you fight together for the same reason.”
Carlota’s debut season as a Ladies European Tour member in 2012 was also extremely special as, after two tournament victories in the Netherlands and China, she became the first player since Laura Davies in 1985 to win both the Rookie of The Year and Order of Merit titles in the same year.
