The Estrella Damm Mediterranean Ladies Open has confirmed that Carlota Ciganda, 26, will tee it up at the Estrella Damm Mediterranean Ladies Open from 20 to 23 April at the Terramar Golf Club in Sitges (Barcelona).
The presence of the Pamplona golfer, winner of two LPGA Tour tournaments in 2016 (Hana Bank in South Korea and Lorena Ochoa Invitational in Mexico) and current number 20 in the world, will add increased competition at the inaugural event.
Carlota Ciganda has always shown her support for tournaments played in her home country and impressed at the 2011 Tenerife Ladies Match Play and the 2014 Tenerife Open de Espana Femenino, finishing second at both.
The European Solheim Cup Captain, Annika Sorenstam, is heading to the Estrella Damm Mediterranean Ladies Open and this will provide Carlota with an additional incentive to impress, ahead of the 2017 Solheim Cup that will take place in Des Moines in August.
Carlota Ciganda turned professional in May 2011 following a brilliant career as an amateur. After graduating from Arizona State University, she debuted at the Tenerife Ladies Match Play where she finished second and competed on the Ladies European Tour Access Series, which included a victory at the Murcia Ladies Open.
At the LPGA Qualifying School in December 2011, she finished 34th and received category 20 for the 2012 LPGA Tour. In that same month, she finished third in the LET Final Qualifying School to also earn full playing rights on the LET for the 2012 season.
In her first full season on the LET, Carlota won the Order of Merit and was also voted by members as the Player of the Year. She competed in 19 tournaments including two wins, the Deloitte Ladies Open and the China Suzhou Taihu Open and secured a further ten top-10 finishes.
Carlota’s impressive career also includes winning the 2013 UniCredit Ladies German Open, two LPGA titles and representing the European team at the 2013 and 2015 Solheim Cups.
