Nicole Broch Estrup sits at the top of the leaderboard after play was suspended at the Australian Women’s Classic – Presented by Pacific Bay Resort Studios.
The Danish star teed it up at 7.25 am (local time) from the ninth and had a fast start with birdies on her first two holes at Bonville Golf Resort.
Broch Estrup made a par on the 11th and was playing the 12th when the air horn went for play to be suspended due to inclement weather at 8.19 am.
“It was nice to start birdie-birdie and I had a good chance on number 11 as well,” she said. “On 12 I made the fairway in two, I had to lay up so we will see what that ends up being.
“It was nice to get a fast start when you know it’s probably going to be cut short. You have to try and go out there and play aggressively.
“The birdie on nine, I hit it to about three metres and on 10, I hit a 3-wood to four metres and lipped out for eagle, so it was a tap-in birdie.”
Broch Estrup had a final round of 68 (-4) on the last day of the Women’s NSW Open to propel her into a share of sixth place.
That result gave the LET winner a boost heading into this week at Bonville and she is working on grinding out results.
She explained: “Mentally, Sunday gave me a lot of confidence. Last week I was not hitting the ball the way I wanted, I was not feeling comfortable. I’m working hard on grinding when I’m not hitting it the best.
“I think last week was a good result of that. I definitely got a little bit of a confidence boost that I’m good enough if I just let myself play golf and not get in my own way and everything doesn’t have to be perfect, I’m good with what I have.”
Broch Estrup was prepared for the potential weather delay today and retreated to her car to watch a TV series.
She added: “I watched Yellowstone in the delay, I’m a couple of episodes behind Kasper [my husband] so I have to catch up a bit before we see each other next week, so I popped my iPad in the bag as well.”
The first round will resume at 7.30 am (local time) on Saturday morning with the seven groups on each side that have already teed off to continue their round at this time.
For those groups who had not yet teed off, tee times have been amended and updated with groups now teeing off on Saturday 50 minutes earlier than their original day one tee time.
The Australian Women’s Classic has officially been reduced from a 54-hole tournament to a 36-hole tournament.
