The final showdowns for places in the semifinals and finals of the men’s and women’s teams tournament take place on the last day of the round-robin group games at the Gleneagles PGA Centenary Course today.
The groups are being dominated by Britain, with three of the women’s teams leading the way and two of the men’s ahead in their sections.
Only the top teams will progress to the knockout stages, and the final matches today will confirm who will progress.
All three British women’s teams have collected a maximum four points from their two matches, with Laura DAVIES and Georgia HALL set to maintain their stranglehold on group A against the Belgians Chloe LEURQUIN and Manon DE ROEY, who are the bottom-placed team with just a single point.
Solheim Cup captain Catriona MATTHEW, who tops group D alongside Holly CLYBURN, believes HALL’s success in winning the British Open last week, has built momentum for the home nation at Gleneagles.
“It helps. You saw that with Georgia winning last week,” MATTHEW said. “You get the crowds up if the home players are doing well. It’s good to see the Brits winning.”
The number one-ranked British men’s pair of Callum SHINKWIN and Lee SLATTERY have recovered from their poor start to top group A and play the Sweden 2 duo Daniel JANNEVRET and Oscar FLOREN for a place in the semifinals.
SLATTERY, who admitted he was nervous on Wednesday, said: “We didn’t discuss anything overnight. Anything you have to say can be said while you are playing and with the shots you play.”
Britain’s third pairing top group B, with Connor SYME and Liam JOHNSTON playing unbeaten Italians Francesco LAPORTA and Alessandro TADINI in a straight shoot-out to qualify.
