Bonetti Aces R&A Rules Exam

For the third year in a row, the LET Rookies were challenged to complete the R&A Rules Academy Level 1 Exam, which is an online test that aims to improve the knowledge of the rules amongst golfers of every level. It also promotes an understanding of etiquette and highlights the most commonly occurring rules situations. It features videos, images and diagrams and includes revision questions after each section. This forms part of the LET’s Rookie Orientation Programme that prepares the first-timers for their careers as professional golfers.

The R&A compiled a special LET leaderboard, which was topped by Alexandra Bonetti, of France, who scored 100%. She was followed by Vani Kapoor and Amandeep Drall, both from India. All three players received ic!berlin sunglasses for their efforts and, as she was the winner, Alexandra Bonetti was also presented with a traditional Scottish quaich from Chris Wallace, rules official from the R&A.

Alexandra was thrilled with her first place and said: “As a rookie on the LET, I am very excited to be here in Morocco playing this prestigious event. The game of golf is based on rules as well as integrity and honesty, of course. When we are out there alone sometimes in difficult situations, it is important to be knowledgeable about rules so these situations become less stressful and then it is easier to perform better, so I was glad to take that rules exam and even more delighted to have won it!”

Mike Round, LET Director of Development and Membership said: “We think it is really important that players have a good understanding of the rules, particularly at the professional level where penalty shots could be very costly. Also, not only will a sound knowledge of golf rules help to avoid unnecessary penalty shots but will also have a positive impact on the pace of play which is important as our members are role models for the sport.”

David Rickman, Executive Director – Governance and Chief of Staff at The R&A said, “It is important that golfers have a knowledge and understanding of the etiquette of the game and the various rules situations that they may encounter on the golf course. We are therefore delighted that the Ladies European Tour continues to endorse The R&A’s Level 1 Rules Academy and encourage their rookies to undertake and complete the course and exam as part of their induction programme. Congratulations to Alexandra Bonetti for an excellent score in the exam and to all the candidates for completing the Level 1 course.”
