(George, South Africa – 10 February 2005) All 20 teams are raring to go at the inaugural Women’s World Cup of Golf, which starts tomorrow over The Links at Fancourt Hotel and Country Club Estate on South Africa’s Garden Route.

Former World number one Karrie Webb and partner Rachel Hetherington are 5-1 odds to lift the title and make official their World number one pairing status after they won the Women’s World Cup of Golf in Malaysia five years ago.
Webb is relieved the second day is foursomes and less strenuous on the mind than the first day.
“We can get a feel of the course during the first-round better ball,” said Webb.
“We might have more of an understanding by the time we play the foursomes.
“I have known Rachel since I was 14. We grew up playing amateur golf together. We played for our state, so it is good to do it for our country as well.”
England, spearheaded by Laura Davies, winner of 66 events around the globe, and current Weetabix Women’s Open Champion Karen Stupples, are keen to make it a national double in golf and emulate the feat achieved by compatriots Luke Donald and Paul Casey, who won the Men’s World Cup of Golf in Seville taking the trophy back to the ‘green and pleasant land’.
However, Stupples knows it will be a tough proposition around this 6,424-yard potential monster of a course.
