Lydia Ko is excited to be back in Australia this week to defend her title at the ISPS Handa Women’s Australian Open.
“I played really well you know in Australia,” Ko said. “I won the Australian Amateur Championship before and had my fi rst professional win at the New South Wales tournament so you know it’s I have a lot of memories here and obviously there is that rivalry between New Zealand and Australia but you know we’re so close we always come over here and enjoy playing over in Australia so it’s always great to come back and the fans have been, they’re great the last few years I’ve been playing the Opens, so and I’m looking forward to this week too.”
Ko knows that she will have to bring her A game this week at The Grange.
“You know it’s a tough course,” Ko said. “It’s in great condition right now and I’m pretty sure as the week goes on as it gets hotter the greens will get firmer so yeah, no it’s going to be touch, it’s going to be challenging but you know there’s a great blend of holes where there’s some shorter irons where you know you can go for some birdies and you know some holes when you come off with a par and you say hey that’s still a good job.”
Ko enters this week in good form following a victory in her home country at the SPS Handa New Zealand Open where she decided to donate her winners back to her home country.
“I’m so happy that at the end of the day I got it done and you know I’m able to donate it and I think it will go to a great cause, or in some way to grow New Zealand or grow golf in New Zealand.”
