New South Wales’ Rebecca Artis will have extra incentive to play well in this week’s Bing Lee Fujitsu Women’s NSW Open at Oatlands Golf Club in Sydney.
The talented golfer from Coonabarabran will have one of the few opportunities to play in front of family.
“My whole family is coming down this weekend. They don’t get much of a chance to see me play these days, so it’ll be good to have them in the gallery.” She commented prior to teeing off in the Pro-am.
Artis was the leading Australian last year on the Ladies European Tour, she finished 16th on the Order of Merit, but more importantly she came from behind in Sweden to secure her first victory on tour, The Helsingborg Open.
The win has made a massive difference to her approach to each tournament, “It is huge to get that first win under my belt. It makes the world of difference when you playing to be able to tell yourself, you have won before, you can do this, as opposed to you can do it.”
The 25-year-old believes she certainly has a very good chance to win her home State title this week. “Last year has given me a lot of confidence, I think I have a very good chance this week, but there are some great players here this week, Laura, Gwladys, Stacey, Lindsey, Sarah, so I going to have to be at my best.”
One of the leading players this week, France’s Gwladys Nocera was certainly relieved when her clubs finally turned up at Sydney airport yesterday. The 12 time winner on the Ladies European Tour arrived into Sydney on Sunday night but her clubs went missing.
To her credit she borrowed a set of clubs to tee it up in the Renault Ladies Pro-am on Monday afternoon at Castle Hill before playing another practice round with borrowed clubs at Oatlands on Tuesday.
