(A Coruña, Spain, May 29 2004) Stephanie Arricau from France carded a one under par 71 to take the lead on eight under heading into the final round of the Union Fenosa Open de España Femenino Xacobeo 2004 at Club de Golf La Coruña.

Brewerton feels that if she can get off to a fast start in the final round, she will have every chance to win her maiden title and become the first rookie since 2001 to win on the LET, after Paula Marti, Suzann Pettersen and Karine Icher won five times between them and all of whom went on to represent Europe in The Solheim Cup.
“I didn’t play that front nine very well,” admitted Brewerton who turned in one over par 37 before lobbing in birdies at the 11th, 12th and 13th.
“I seem to be playing well in patches, some good, some not so good. After my birdie on the 11th, I got it all back and hit some good shots all the way in.
The former Curtis Cup player dropped a shot at the 14th after missing the green with her six iron approach, but at the 17th, Brewerton hit a wedge to four feet for her final birdie of the day.
“I think I need to get off to a fast start tomorrow and put some pressure on early and then I think you’d be sorted,” she added.
“If you can pick up a couple of shots early, then play the tricky holes around the turn well, I’ve got every chance and it’s a nice position to be in.”
Scott added a 70 to her opening rounds of 71 and 69 and has crept up the board almost un-noticed after the rookies have dominated proceedings for the first two days.
Four birdies and two bogies puts the 31-year-old from Te Awamutu in prime position for a Sunday charge.
“I played alright and got it round without much trouble,” admitted Scott. “It’s all I can ask for to be in contention and tee it up on Sunday with a chance.
“I’ve been playing well over the last three events and I felt I’ve actually played better than I scored, so I’m looking forward to tomorrow.”
Clau was naturally disappointed that she could not extend her lead after reaching ten under par after eight holes. Around the turn, the 22-year-old from Barcelona dropped five shots in four holes and slipped to four under with a disappointing bogey at the final hole.
“Right now, I’m very sad as it was very frustrating today, said Clau after her round.
“But there are 120 other players in the field who would love to be in the position I am in right now, so that makes me feel a bit happier.”
