Annabel Dimmock has set her sights on making Europe’s Solheim Cup team after breaking into the winner’s circle at the Jabra Ladies Open last month.
Dimmock came through a final-round tussle with Pauline Roussin Bouchard to complete her maiden victory at the Evian Resort Golf Club and moved to 14th on the LET order of merit.
A victory in the Ladies European Thailand Open this week, worth 40 Cup points, could see her move from 34th to 12th on the European Solheim Cup points list and with significantly more points available in the final three qualification events, the Evian Championship, the AIG Women’s British Open and the Aberdeen Standard Investments Ladies Scottish Open, she is already thinking about a potential European debut.
Dimmock was picked for the 2014 European Junior Ryder Cup team at Blairgowrie in Scotland and would love to be on the plane to Gleneagles with her good friend Georgia Hall, the 2018 Women’s British Open champion, in September.
Speaking at Phoenix Gold Golf and Country Club in Pattaya on Wednesday, Dimmock said: “I had a few days off with my friends and family celebrating the win and then went to see my coach, Simon Shanks, and was like, right: let’s start again now. It’s been back to the grind.
“Obviously there’s the Solheim but I need to have a few good weeks to get in. At the start of the year, I was playing well but it wasn’t within my sights. If I can have a good few weeks, we’ll see. If I am going to get in it would probably need a captain’s pick on form. I need to try and keep playing well but you can’t think about that too much, because I want to focus on my golf and then everything else takes care of itself.
“I don’t want to take my eye off the ball, because you’re only as good as your last round or your last tournament. I’m not relaxing at all and if anything it’s more pressure.
“I just want to keep playing simple golf and not doing anything too special but keeping everything there or thereabouts.”
The 22-year-old from Buckinghamshire, who represents Wentworth Golf Club, gave a bunker masterclass to local juniors during a clinic on Wednesday morning and was a great ambassador for the LET.
She said: “The young girls and boys were unbelievable and I was so pleasantly surprised by how good they were. There is so much talent here in Thailand. I love helping out the younger generation, so it’s not hard work for me; I enjoy it.”
Dimmock finished T54th and T19th in Thailand in 2017 and 2018 respectively and she added: “There’s always been something positive to take away from Thailand and this week, hopefully it’s the golf.”
