In advance of this week’s Deloitte Ladies Open (19-21 June), GAC golf ambassador Amy Boulden returned to Wales to take part in a unique golfing challenge on Cardiff harbour against GAC Pindar’s Extreme Sailing Series crew members Chris Draper and Tyson Lamond.
The 2014 Ladies European Tour Rookie of the Year demonstrated her impressive short game as she took aim at a floating green on GAC Pindar’s Extreme 40 catamaran moored 80 yards away.
Unsurprisingly, Boulden won the challenge with several pinpoint approach shots which landed on the floating green. Olympian Draper initially struggled to find his form with a pitching wedge, thinning a few ‘eco balls’ into the harbour, before landing one delightful shot on the green, hitting the target once more without remaining on the grass. Lamond, who had been talking up his game among his GAC Pindar colleagues initially struggled to find his range, but landed a fantastic shot just a couple of feet from the pin.
Boulden, who was later taken on an exhilarating race around the harbour ahead of Act 4 of the Extreme Sailing Series (18-21 June) comments: “The golf challenge was great fun, Tyson and Chris were great sports and it was a real thrill to go out on the water with the GAC Pindar crew. It was so much faster than I expected and I was surprised by how much the crew were constantly communicating to keep the pace up and coordinate manoeuvres together.”
GAC Group Marketing Director Sean Bradley said: “Our team of GAC golfing ambassadors have been in fine form this year with George Coetzee, Byeong Hun An and more recently Chris Wood claiming European Tour victories. We’re hoping that our fun golf challenge will help Amy’s impressive short game over the summer with key events including the Ladies European Masters and Ladies Scottish open coming up next month.”
GAC Pindar Team Principal Andrew Pindar comments: “It’s wonderful to be back in Cardiff for the Extreme Sailing Series and we were delighted to offer Amy the chance to experience racing with the GAC Pindar crew. Amy comfortably won the golf challenge as expected and I think Tyson and Chris are going to stick to sailing for the time being!”
