Ambassador Amy having an impact

Ladies European Tour Rookie of the Year Amy Boulden is having an impact off the course as well as on with her new role as a Golf Development Wales ambassador for women and girls.

Having come through the Golf Union of Wales system in one of the best amateur careers ever seen in Wales, Boulden is happy to be giving something back.

With more than 100 women and girls turning up for special clinics given by Boulden in Conwy in North Wales and Carmarthen in West Wales, Golf Development Wales say the addition of such a high profile role model is proving to be important.

“Having someone like Amy helping inspire women and girls golf in Wales has been a big step forward,” said Stuart Finlay of Golf Development Wales.

“It is a relationship which will continue in 2016 and that is something we are looking to build on next year with some great opportunities.

“She is obviously high profile, performing well on the Ladies European Tour, and that has been reflected on the popularity of events held so far.

“As we enter into one of the key periods of the ladies season in Europe, there will be plenty of people following her progress a little more closely.”

Boulden’s profile after winning the Rookie of the Year award is such that she has taken part in some well-covered sponsor events this year, such as playing night golf in Dubai or taking part in an Extreme Sailing v golf challenge in Cardiff Bay hitting shots onto a moving boat.

“I came up through the ranks in Wales so I am always glad to give anything back that I can,” Boulden added.

“It is great to see so many people, a little surreal when they ask for autographs and things. There certainly seem to be a lot more girls taking up golf than when I was coming through.”
