AMATEUR BOUVET AIMING FOR AN LET CARD AFTER GREAT PRE-QUALIFIER PERFORMANCE

Vanessa Bouvet

France’s Vanessa Bouvet is hoping to secure a Ladies European Tour (LET) card for 2025 at this week’s Lalla Aicha Q-School.

The amateur put in a great performance at last week’s Pre-Qualifier Marrakech and is looking forward to this week’s Final Qualifier.

Bouvet produced rounds of 72-66-60 to finish tied at the top of the leaderboard at Golf Club Rotana alongside New Zealand’s Amelia Garvey.

The 25-year-old played on the LET Access Series (LETAS) in 2024 and believes it gave her a good look into life as a professional golfer.

“I wanted to see what it was like playing at a higher-level professional level because I’ve never done it before,” said Bouvet.

“When I was 14, I qualified for an LPGA event, which was really cool, but I’ve never actually played on a pro circuit.

“I had so much fun doing that and these were really fun events, and I think it really showed me the level of golf and what the level is for the future. It was really encouraging.”

Bouvet has grown up around the world living in several different countries including Venezuela, the United States and New Zealand.

Having started playing the game at the tender age of four or five, it’s always been a dream to be a professional and travel around the world.

She continued: “I started playing when I was four or five years old. I was really young. I started in Venezuela. My dad got me into it, and it started with clinics and then when we moved to the US, that’s when I started taking actual lessons and I was doing like US kids and Little Linkster events.

“I started taking it more seriously when I moved to New Zealand. We moved a lot. I started playing a lot of junior events and played a lot in Australia and around Asia. It was kind of the dream to become a professional since I was young.

“Playing around the world is something I’m really looking forward to and doing again because I love travelling. I love playing different courses and it’s just all super exciting.”

Bouvet studied in the United States for four years completing her degree at Nebraska while playing collegiate golf.

However, she took a break from the sport while doing her master’s degree and returned afterwards having missed golf.

After starting to play again, Bouvet decided to play on LETAS in the 2024 season and then head to Lalla Aicha Q-School in December.

“I did four years at Nebraska, I played college golf at a D1 school,” she explained. “It was really cool, and it was also really high level events. I would say the level was similar to LETAS.

“That was a really cool experience doing my studies and golf, something I love at the same time. I got my major in journalism and mass communications, and I minored in psychology.

“I took a bit of a break from golf. I did a Master’s degree and I wasn’t sure what route I wanted to take, but then I was sure after the year of the Master’s that I wanted to return to golf because I really missed it and it’s really where my heart was at.

“From the start of the year, it was my goal to kind of play LETAS events, get the experience and get better in my game, gain confidence and come out to the qualifiers and get a card.”

With the goal of securing full status on the LET for 2025 and getting to travel around the world, Bouvet isn’t getting ahead of herself and wants to take it one step at a time.

She added: “I think I’ll just come in with the same mindset and take every shot as it comes and take it one shot at a time and just take my time and really think about every shot. I just want to stay in the moment and enjoy and stay relaxed.”

The Frenchwoman will begin the Final Qualifier in the first round at Al Maaden Golf teeing it up at 10.30 am (local time) alongside Argentina’s Magdalena Simmermacher and Italian amateur Carolina Caminoli.
