ALEXANDER READY TO CONTINUE HER FLYING FORM ON HOME SOIL

Home favourite Casandra Alexander will be competing at the Joburg Ladies Open this week, where she joins 16 other South Africans at Modderfontein Golf Course.

Having had a very successful couple of months on the Sunshine Ladies Tour (SLT), the 25-year-old will be hoping to get her first Ladies European Tour (LET) win on home soil this week.

The South African claimed a win at the Jabra Ladies Classic in February, and has posted three further top-five performances at the SuperSport Ladies Challenge (3rd), Platinum Ladies Open (3rd), and last week’s ABSA Ladies Invitational (5th).

Alexander’s hometown is Johannesburg, so can enjoy the short commute to the golf club this week. “It’s always nice to play at home for a little bit, you’re always slightly more comfortable. Commuting from home is good and having family and friends around always makes a nice experience. I remember coming here when I was 13 or 14 years old, so good memories and hopefully we can make some more,” she said.

England’s Alice Hewson is a guest of Alexander this week, and the duo will be teeing it up in the first round alongside Czech’s Sara Kouskova at 7:19am local time tomorrow.

Commenting on her game so far this season, she explained: “I have been working really hard with my team to get more consistent. We’ve had about five or six weeks in a row that have been really good. It shows we’re doing the right things, and being up there in contention shows the consistency we want to bring this year.”

Alexander has previously won this event, back in 2021 at a different course – Soweto Country Club – and before it was co-sanctioned with the LET.

Modderfontein Golf Course will host this week’s tournament for the fourth year in a row, and it is a venue that the 25-year-old knows well.

She added: “I grew up playing a lot of golf here, so I will have the altitude advantage being from the area.  It’s a challenging 18 holes, but it makes it a great competing course. The greenkeeping staff have done an amazing job with all the rain we’ve had, and the course is looking really good.

I’m just going to go out there, play my best and we see what happens. There’s a lot of good players in the field so we’ll see.”
