AIG WOMEN’S OPEN PROVIDES WORLD CLASS MENTAL AND PHYSICAL HEALTH SERVICES FOR PLAYERS

The AIG Women’s Open has taken a pioneering step forward to support players’ overall physical and mental health during this year’s championship with services including an enhanced Players’ Lounge, a state-of-the-art gym, skin cancer screening, medical facilities, childcare and a mental health and recovery zone.

Located within the AIG Women’s Open Players’ Clubhouse, the facilities were designed to help the players achieve their peak performance in the championship, being played on the Old Course at St Andrews. The R&A has taken a leading role in the development of the services, which fully aligns with the Ladies European Tour Performance Institute’s commitment to elevating player services, improving all Tour players’ mental and physical fitness and equipping them with the tools to perform at their best.

Dr/Prof Andrew Murray, Medical and Scientific Advisor, The R&A, and Chief Scientific Officer, the LETPI, said: “The R&A and the AIG Women’s Open have been at the forefront of putting in place facilities that can help optimise health and performance in professional golf. Things that we have instigated to assist the athletes to achieve their peak performance include a top-quality gym, athletic catering, recovery aids like ice baths and additional services like medical imaging, diagnostic ultrasound, skin screening, a mental fitness and recovery zone.  We also have a range of health professionals are on hand including staff skilled in mental health and well-being, nutrition, strength and conditioning, physiotherapists and medical services. The LET also continues to provide medical support each week through the LETPI.”

The fantastic services provided included a performance gym, mental fitness / relaxation lounge, recovery zone and cold plunges, performance nutrition consultant, strength and conditioning coach, physiotherapists, sports massage, sport and exercise doctor, skin cancer screening, diagnostic imaging (ultrasound), a private physiotherapy area, as well as player services such as mental health sessions, a creche, courtesy cars, concierge and a nail technician.
