The 44th AIG Women’s Open is underway as Dame Laura Davies led us off at 6.30am, with southerly winds of up to 35mph causing a few problems for the world-class field. Early brutal conditions ensured that the first seven holes are playing directly into the wind and there was an hour of play before we had our first birdie, courtesy of Alena Sharp at the par five 4th hole.
Slovenia’s Katja Pogacar received a welcome early alarm when America’s Jessica Korda withdrew this morning due to medical reasons, unrelated to Covid-19, and took her place in the field at 7.36am alongside Gemma Dryburgh and Caroline Masson. Making the most of her second appearance, Pogacar is level par as she makes the turn, only one shot off the lead.
