Two-time major champion Anna Nordqvist is among the star names competing in the Estrella Damm Mediterranean Ladies Open in Sitges this week.
The Swede, an eight-time winner on the LPGA, who won her majors at the 2009 McDonald’s LPGA Championship and 2017 Evian Championship, is the top ranked player in the field at no.18 on the Rolex Rankings.
She tied for second in last year’s inaugural event at Club de Golf Terramar after missing out to Florentyna Parker in a play-off and had a memorable week, producing a brilliant hole-in-one on the 13th during the third round.
“I really like it here and I have great memories from last year. Also, it’s a little warmer this year. The golf course looks great and they lengthened a few holes, which is good,” she said, adding: “I think it’s awesome, where we are staying. Taking a bike into the town right along the water, it’s a really cool atmosphere and the team do a really good job here. I don’t play much in Europe so I’m excited to be back.
“It’s great to see so many of the top European players here this week and you are going to have to play well. I feel like I played well here last year to get into the play-off and I’ve been feeling good about my game the last few weeks, just haven’t really scored that well. This is the week to turn it around.”
Nordqvist will play with Spanish star Carlota Ciganda and Dutchwoman Anne Van Dam for the first two rounds, teeing off at 9.03am local time on Thursday and 13.33pm on Friday. The reigning champion Parker and fellow Solheim Cup stars Madelene Sagstrom, Azahara Munoz, Emily Kristine Pedersen, Caroline Masson, Sandra Gal and Catriona Matthew will also feature.
All the action will be available to watch live on the LET YouTube channel from 13:00-16:00 local time over the weekend.
