The Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open presented by EventScotland returns to the magnificent Archerfield Links in East Lothian, from Thursday 3rd – Saturday 5th May 2012.
Now occupying a prime spot earlier in the year on the Ladies European Tour Schedule, the Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open will be the first UK tournament on their calendar and will attract some of the best female golfers on the current European Tour. Included amongst these will be last year’s champion, Aberdeen Asset Management ambassador, Catriona Matthew.
Catriona said “I am particularly looking forward to defending my Aberdeen Ladies Scottish Open title. Last year’s event was one of the highlights of my year as it is fantastic to be able to play in front of a home crowd at my home course, Archerfield. Thanks to the support of Aberdeen Asset Management this year’s event is set to be the best yet.”
Martin Gilbert, Chief Executive of Aberdeen Asset Management said “As proud supporters of Scottish golf we are delighted to be entering into our fourth year as title sponsor of the Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open. We are looking forward to establishing the event in May 2012, and continuing to grow the number of talented players taking part.”
Paul Bush OBE, Chief Operating Officer at EventScotland said: “The Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open is a key event on the Ladies European Tour, and we are delighted to continue our relationship with the tournament as part of our commitment to women’s golf. Scotland is the home of golf, and events like the Ladies Scottish Open are hugely important as we build towards the 2014 Ryder Cup; contributing to the excitement by showcasing some of the best golfers on the Ladies European Tour, including Scotland’s own Catriona Matthew.”
The event’s unique format will again see the professional golfers playing alongside an amateur field increased this year to 70, which will include a number of celebrities who will also be taking to the magnificent Fidra course at Archerfield Links.
Tom Younger, Archerfield Links said “We are delighted to again be hosting the Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open. The event continues to grow with amateurs and pros commenting on how much they enjoy the unique event format and the atmosphere that surrounds it. We were delighted that Catriona won last year on home turf and look forward to welcoming everyone back in 2012.”
Commenting on the event and this year’s strong player field, Alexandra Armas, Executive Director of the Ladies European Tour said: “I’m sure that 2012 will see a fantastic tournament and will be a great showcase for ladies’ golf in Scotland. From a scheduling perspective the earlier date in May works well for everyone involved and doesn’t clash with any other golf events taking place in the UK.
“As this tournament continues to grow in popularity and status year on year, we are expecting a stronger player field than ever at Archerfield in May.”
