A SOLHEIM CUP HONEYMOON FOR SAGSTRÖM AND CLARKE

Madelene Sagström

Last weekend, Madelene Sagström and Jack Clarke tied the knot in front of all of their friends and family and this weekend, they will be part of Team Europe at the 2024 Solheim Cup.

Being able to fit in a wedding as a professional golfer is a struggle, but Sagström and Clarke managed to squeeze it in before the 19th edition of the Solheim Cup.

The pair, who got engaged at the end of 2022, were able to tie the knot in front of all their friends and family in the UK.

“It was everything we have dreamt of and more,” said Sagström. “It was absolutely incredible. I have been slightly stressed out these past few weeks trying to make things as perfect as I can. You have been much better than me.

Clarke added: “I have been trying to calm her down saying everything will be fine and it’s all going to work out. She kind of lost it on the Tuesday last week, like really lost it.

“She was jumping out of her seat, shouting at the computer and I told her to relax, go and hit some golf balls and take the stress away.”

Sagström continued: “I played bad in Boston the week before the wedding and everyone was saying once this wedding is done, you’re going to feel much better about your golf. I hit balls today and I thought I could actually do this, it’s so nice.

“It’s one of these things that we dreamt about from the start when you proposed. We live far away from family; we just want to spend this weekend with the people that we love the most.

“We have just been trying to make it as wonderful experience for us and our families as possible. All of family on both sides came to this wedding, travelling, people from America and Sweden. It was so much fun.”

It will be a fourth Solheim Cup appearance for the Swedish player while Clarke will be caddying for Sweden’s Anna Nordqvist at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club.

Nordqvist was a guest at the wedding and the trio flew to the Solheim Cup on Sunday ready to do battle against the U.S. Team.

The newly-married couple were grateful to be able to have their wedding surrounded by the people they love and then to be able to be involved in the pinnacle of women’s golf.

Clarke explained: “I did well up, we decided not to do a first look so that was the first time I saw her in the dress. It was an incredible day.

“I managed to hold back the tears most of Saturday and then we had a moment on Sunday when we opened the presents before we came on the flight here and I lost it. I bawled for about five to ten minutes non-stop.”

Sagström added: “I get to do the two things that I love two weeks in a row! I get to spend time with my family, your family and all of our friends and I get to play in the most prestigious event as a European. It’s the perfect two weeks. This is our two worlds coming together and it’s absolutely beautiful.”
