A DREAM COME TRUE FOR NOBILIO TO PLAY ON THE LET

Alessia Nobilio

Alessia Nobilio is excited for her first full year as a professional golfer on the Ladies European Tour (LET).

The Italian graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) last summer before competing in amateur competitions for the Italian team and then heading to the LET Access Series (LETAS).

It was always in her plan to turn professional after college, and she felt it was important to pay back the Italian Federation before turning pro.

“I liked UCLA a lot. Golf wise it wasn’t the best experience for me as I didn’t perform well, and I missed out on some events especially in my senior year,” she said.

“Overall, it was a great experience. I earned a degree in Economics, which was a goal of mine, and I made friendships for a lifetime. I also matured a lot as a person and even if I wasn’t playing my best golf.

“It made me realise how important it is for me, and how much I love this game, which is why I turned pro a couple months after I came back to Italy, and decided to dedicate my life to it.

“I just waited a couple of months after I came back from the US to turn pro, because I wanted to play some events for the Italian Federation that has always supported me. It’s also a good way to spend time with my coaches and get my game back.”

Nobilio was a member of LETAS in 2024, and participated in four events as an amateur before turning professional and competing in a further two events.

Over the course of 2024 season, the 23-year-old record four top-five finishes and ended the year 12th in the LETAS Order of Merit.

She continued: “Those top-five finishes meant a lot to me. After struggling with my game in the States, they helped me get my confidence back, as I wasn’t expecting to play well right away. I loved every single event I played on LETAS.

“The venues as well as the organisation were great and all the people working for it were very kind and helpful. It was also nice to see some of my friends from junior golf again and compete with them.

“The highlight for me was probably the five-under par I shot in my second round of the first event I played in August [the Ahlsell Trophy], as I didn’t have such a low score in a long time.”

Nobilio knew the plan for the end of the year was to attend Lalla Aicha Q-School in Marrakech, Morocco.

After finishing the LETAS season, the Italian player finetuned aspects of her game in preparation for the Final Qualifier at Al Maaden Golf and Royal Golf Marrakech.

“I made a plan with my three coaches, and I dedicated the first month after the last event on the LET Access trying to fix my swing and putting technique,” she said.

“After that, I was glad to have the chance to test my game at the Santander Golf Tour at the start of  November where I had two solid rounds. The last month was instead mainly focused on the strategy on the course.

“I like both courses and the thing I like the most is how different they are. The courses are both challenges in different ways, and I think it will be a good test on how we can adapt to different types of courses as well.”

Nobilio was thrilled to produce rounds of 73-73-68-69-69 to end the Final Qualifier in a share of 16th place and secure Category 12 status on the LET for 2025.

She added: “It is a dream come true to earn my full card on the LET. I knew how strong the field was at Q-School. My main goal was to be patient and positive throughout the Final Qualifier and I’m glad I managed it.”
