After a quick break the Ladies European Tour (LET) is in the Canary Islands this week for the Tenerife Women’s Open. A field of 132 players from 35 nations will take to the fairways at Abama Golf Resort as the tournament returns to the schedule for the first time since 2011.
Before play gets underway on Thursday morning in sunny Spain, here are five talking points to look out for…
TOP THREE IN TOWN
With nine events done and dusted in 2025, the LET Order of Merit – the yearlong race to crown the Tour’s number one player – is now in full flow and this week sees the top three all taking to the fairways in Tenerife.
England’s Mimi Rhodes leads the way on 1,569.38 points thanks to three emphatic early victories. The rookie grew up in Spain but is visiting the Canary Islands for the very first time this week.
Rhodes’s compatriot, Cara Gainer, is also in the field at Abama Golf. The Lalla Meryem Cup winner has 1,157.18 points through eight events and will be high on confidence after a third place finish at the most recent Jabra Ladies Open.
Rounding out the top three is Czech Republic’s Sara Kouskova. The Olympian had a week to remember last time out as she secured her maiden LET victory at Evian Resort. Kouskova sits third in the season standings on 917.46 points.
MAJOR CONFIDENCE FOR CHIARA
One spot back in the Order of Merit is Chiara Tamburlini, who will no doubt be as confident as anyone in Tenerife after she secured her best ever Major result last week.
The Swiss star, winner of the 2024 Order of Merit, recorded a T14 finish at the testing U.S. Women’s Open in Wisconsin, a score helped by rounds of 69-71 to start the week.

BOOTH IS BACK
Following a three year injury absence this week marks the return of Scottish star Carly Booth. A popular figure on the LET, Booth last tee’d up at the Belgian Ladies Open in May 2022 but has since been sidelined due to an ACL injury.
Having had reconstructive knee surgery, the three-time LET winner returns this week ahead of several European events in June. Booth, now 32-years-old, first joined the Tour in 2009 and has victories to her name at the Scottish Open, Swiss Ladies Open and Tipsport Czech Ladies Open.
SPANISH STARS IN ACTION
With the LET back in Tenerife for the first time since it visited for the Open de España in 2014, no fewer than 17 home stars will be attempting to hoist silverware in the Canary Island.
Nuria Iturrioz, a four-time winner on the LET, leads the home charge alongside Ana Pelaez Trivino, veterans Maria Hernandez and Carmen Alonso, and Mallorcan Luna Sobron Galmes.
Only one Spaniard has ever won this event – Raquel Carriedo at the inaugural 2002 edition.
TENERIFE TEST
Last but not least, this week sees the long-awaited return to Tenerife after a decade-long hiatus on the LET.
The tournament previously took place between 2002-2011 with past winners including Becky Brewerton (Match play edition, 2011), Trish Johnson (2010), Felicity Johnson (2009) – now a referee on the LET – and Diana Luna (2004).
Since then, the LET has visited Tenerife twice as part of the Open de España Femenino, in 2012 and 2014, with the circuit now back for the first time in 11 years.
Abama Golf provides a tricky test for our players this week with all 18 holes full of undulation and slopey greens. The resort, located on the west side of the island, previously hosted the tournament in 2006 where Finland’s Riikka Hakkarainen was victorious.
